Youth Services
 

Job Search Assistance - On-site Career Resource Center provides computer with CalJOBS Search.  A Job Lead list is available (updated every Monday) courtesy of the Department of Human Services.  A staff person is available to assist with job leads, resume preparation, applications, & interviews.

Career Counseling - Teens are provided assistance with college & financial aid applications.  Information for career options is also available for students, courtesy of the Bakersfield Adult School, the Bakersfield College and CalState. 

Teen Club - This HUD-funded Program is designed to provide positive alternatives for youth.  Teen Club curriculum includes:  educational tutoring, exposure to the arts, leadership training, cultural awareness, life skills and recreational activities.  Teen Clubs have an incentive component that encourages youth to participate and earn opportunities to travel to amusement parks, concerts and sporting events.  Participants organize their own elections, mentor younger children, and develop self-esteem through area service projects.  With a variety of interactive activities, public housing youth learn to become leaders within their communities.

Counseling - In collaboration with several counseling centers, services for families and their children are provided through referrals.  Staff conducts initial assessments to make appropriate referrals.

Recreational Activities

Oro Vista Recreational Center
1102 S. Robinson St. Bakersfield
Children & young adults, ages 5-17, participate in scheduled activities and open recreation weekdays at the Center.  Some activities include:  basketball, foos ball, board games, and assistance with reading and homework through the Tutorial Program.  The Center's hours are from 2:30-5:00 p.m.
