Resident Supportive Services

The Housing Authority of the County of Kern responds to resident needs through its Resident Initiatives Department.  Service Coordinators provides services for youth, adults, and seniors.  The Resident Initiatives Department provides a direct link between residents, our Agency, and service providers.  The supportive services offered to residents are done so using a holistic approach that provides case management and referral services for all members of the family. 

Resident Initiatives staff provide and coordinate supportive services for residents of targeted Housing Authority developments. Service Coordinators assure that program participants are linked to the supportive services that they need to achieve self-sufficiency. Services may include but are not limited to:

  • Assist families in obtaining their goals by establishing their Services Plan/ Goal Contract (a needs assessment for a family member or the household is performed through an in-depth interview).
  • Resident services: activities, meetings, workshops, and presentations
  • Education and job training: life skills and soft skill classes, job search assistance, job leads, employment counseling, and referrals to training opportunities
  • Referrals to social service agencies for various needs.
  • Aid in fulfilling community service requirements.
  • Assist residents in understanding lease and residency obligations.
  • Activities for public housing youth: team club, homework club, and recreational activities
  • Provide case  management as needed

Additional Services may include:

  • Transportation
  • Advocate for residents when there is a language barrier
  • Homeownership Counseling and Financial Literacy classes
  • Referrals to substance/alcohol abuse treatment or counseling
