EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION

bulletAPPLICATIONS may be obtained at the Central Administrative Office of the Housing Authority of the County of Kern at 601- 24th Street, Bakersfield, California 93301. Applications must be properly completed in accordance with instructions on the face of the application form, and received in the Personnel Department not later than the date and time noted on the job announcement. All statements on the completed application are subject to verification and investigation.
 
bulletREASONABLE ACCOMMODATION FOR THE DISABLED

The Housing Authority of the County of Kern will make reasonable accommodation for the disabled. Individuals requiring any accommodation in order to participate in the testing process must inform the Personnel Officer of the Housing Authority of the County of Kern in writing, no later than the final filing date as stated on the job announcement. bulletIN COMPLIANCE WITH THE IMMIGRATION REFORM ACT OF 1986, individuals offered employment with the Housing Authority will be required to submit verification of citizenship or legal right to work in the United States.
bulletVETERANS' PREFERENCE may be claimed by submitting suitable evidence of honorable discharge at the time of filing an application. To be eligible, a veteran must have served at least 90 consecutive days during one of the following periods: World War II, 12/7/41 - 12/31/46; Korean Conflict, 6/25/50 - 1/31/55; Vietnam War, 8/5/64 - 5/7/75; Desert Storm, 1/17/90 - 4/6/91.
bulletPOST-OFFER PHYSICAL EXAMINATION AND DRUG SCREEN

Once an offer of employment has been made, you may be required to pass a medical and/or physical exam, including drug and alcohol testing. The cost of the examination is paid by the Housing Authority. Candidates are cautioned not to quit or give notice to present employers until the medical examination has been completed and passed.

It is the responsibility of all applicants and eligibles to promptly advise the Personnel Officer of changes in name, address, or telephone number.

Any applicant who is currently receiving retirement payments from CalPERS is advised to contact the retirement system. Accepting employment with an agency contracting with CalPERS for retirement may affect your retirement benefits.

Kern County is located at the southern end of California's great Central Valley. It is the gateway to Southern California, the San Joaquin Valley and California's High Desert. At 8,073 square miles, it is California's third-largest county.

The mission of the Housing Authority of the County of Kern is to improve the quality of life for low-income residents in Kern County by providing safe, affordable housing and by encouraging self-sufficiency and home ownership. It accomplishes this goal by administering rental-housing programs such as Low-Income Public Housing, Section 8, USDA housing for agricultural workers, and Office of Migrant Services seasonal housing, as well as programs designed to assist low-income families become home owners.
